You Can’t Make a Living Just by Solving Problems

I recently read a great Commencement Speech by Don Peppers. You can find it at: http://www.linkedin.com/today/post/article/20130521085659-17102372-class-of-2013-you-can-t-make-a-living-just-by-solving-problems?ref=email I encourage you to read the entire article.

The quick summary is that with computing power increasing like it is, computers will eventually solve the problems that can be put before them. Therefore, to make a living, today’s college grads need to work on people skills – interpersonal relationships – or they need to focus on discovering problems, which involves creativity.

How does this apply to Life Coaching? Several ways:

  • A Life Coach MUST have good people skills
  • A Life Coach MUST be curious, which leads to creativity
  • A Life Coach should be able to pass these skills to their clients

I’m sure there are other ways that these topics relate – what strikes you? Please comment.
